Rottweiler puppiesHow to choose a Rottweiler puppy If you are bent on having a Rottweiler as your pet, here are some tips on how you go about choosing them. This is what you do to choose a happy and healthy Rottweiler puppy. A Rottweiler should be given a chance to grow up into a well-adjusted dog. So these are perhaps the basic tips for a first-time owner. A Rottweiler pup that shies away from you will not be a good choice. Choose one that is friendly and does not look aggressive and fearful. A friendly Rottweiler that comes to you and smells or licks your hand at the fist meeting is one you should decide on taking in. Insist on meeting the parents of the Rottweiler pup. If they seem easy to touch, well behaved and easy to get along with, the puppies would grow to be the same with proper training. It is very important to understand how many times the mother has littered. As a general principle, the female Rottweiler should have three litters at the most and she should be given a time to recover after she litters. If she is over bred then there are chances of the pups having problems behavior wise and health wise. The back legs of a Rottweiler pup should be examined closely. They are large dogs and as is the case with large dogs like Rottweiler and Labradors, they tend to have hip dysplasia, a problem with the back hips. So it is extremely important that you choose a pup after examining thoroughly the back legs. You may also ask the breeder whether the parents suffered from hip displasia. In bringing a pup home, you would have a lot of responsibilities tagged on to the puppy. So don’t stop short of asking questions to the breeder. Rottweiler pups are sweet but they grow up to be extremely large dogs. So care must be taken to start a training program at the onset to save you a lot of strain and stress at the right time. |
